What is the most common problem for dogs paying too much attention to their rectums?

We have two dogs at our house, a pitbull mix and a chihuahua mix. Both of them are males; 6 and 7 years old. Just recently they have started licking their bums way more than usual. Well, the chihuahua tries but he's too little to bend in half. What could it be?
